Province and Nature Trust Renew Conservation Partnership
April 22nd, 2012
The Nature Trust and the Province of Nova Scotia, long-time partners in land conservation, celebrated Earth Day with an inspiring conservation announcement. The Ministers of Environment and Natural Resources signed a 3-year agreement with the Nature Trust to work together to protect even more important natural areas across Nova Scotia.
Nature Trust president, Corey Miller, was pleased to see the partnership renewed. “With over 70% of land in private ownership, including over 85% of our coastline, we need effective private land conservation to preserve the land and seascapes we all cherish. The Nature Trust, Nova Scotia's community-based, non-government land trust, is uniquely positioned to make such conservation happen." He added, “We are encouraged that the province recognizes and supports the crucial and complementary role the Nature Trust plays in land conservation in this province.”
Between the Province and the Nature Trust, $1.2 million is being committed over the next three years to protect more outstanding natural areas for the benefit of future generations of Nova Scotians.
